Social Credit leader disowns challenge

(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, December 13. A public statement and challenge, attributed to the research committee of the Social Credit Political League concerning the publication of a recent book, was denied today by the league’s leader (Mr J. B. O’Brien).

“The Social Credit League has neither commissioned nor approved any revised versions of Social Credit theory by Mr L. Hunter, or anybody else,” he said. The book in question was largely a series of sweeping historical generalisations unsupported by authenticated historical reference, said Mr O’Brien. “It is a fact of life that parties of change and reform do provide an attraction for those seeking an opportunity to carve a niche for themselves in an otherwise inhospitable world. It would appear that the author of the book, who has been involved with the league’s research committee, would be committing a serious breach of trust if he proclaims Social Credit

endorsement for his writing,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The doctrinal proposals within the book represent a floppy socialist mechanism which is anathema to Social Credit.”
