S.F.M. profit down 1.1 p.c

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON,-Dec. 31. The unaudited net profit of the Southland Frozen Meat Company, Ltd, fell $9472, or 1.1 per cent, to $865,961 in the year to October 31, the directors say in their preliminary report. A final ordinary dividend of 8| per cent, making an unchanged 11 per cent for the year, will be paid on March 24, ex dividend December 23.

Fall in profit

The net profit of Brents Ltd, Rotorua hotel proprietor, fell $12,996, or 42.4 per cent, to $17,639 in the year to September 30. The managing director (Mr J. D. Davys) blames rising costs, the beer strike and payroll tax of $6620 for the profit fall. As announced, the dividend has been held at 10 per cent. The result was after producing $795 less for depreciation of $17,940 and $7413 less for income tax of $22,098.
