Nthn Steel cautious

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 13. j The profit of Northern! Steel Supplies, Ltd, Auck- 1 land, in the half-year to September 30 was in line with that of the previous corresponding period, the chairman (Mr C. B. Wake) says in his interim report. Sales increased during the period, he says. Costs of locally produced merchandise, salaries, wages, and various services have increased, but rationalisation in all divisions has enabled the company to keep total expenses within reasonable limits, Mr Wake says. However, maintenance of the present level of profit will depend largely on the volume of sales continuing at a satisfactory level for the remainder of the financial year. Any more increases in j costs will certainly have an; effect on results for the full! year, he says.
