Life-line service
Sixteen new Christchurch Life-line members were dedicated as counsellors at a special service at the Cambridge Terrace Methodist Church on Sunday evening, bringing the total number 'to 72.
The Christchurch secretary of Life-line (Mrs N. Johnston) said that about 16 counsellors were dedicated each year. Few left the work once they become • involved, but new members were necessary to replace those who shifted, and to cope with the increasi ing number of calls. The members had to undergo a 13-week training course, said Mrs Johnston. The course had been reorganised this year with a greater emphasis on counselling techniques. Participating in the service were the Rev. W. S. Dawson, who preached the sermon, !an dthe Rev. N. van der Kley, iof the Woolston Presbyterian Church. The Methodist Central Mission, the premises of Life-line, will hold a party this afternoon for about 100 old persons in the Mission’s Derby and Joan Club. Items will be presented by the residents of Fairhaven Home for the elderly. There will also be singing, dancing and recitation.
