CHATHAMS FIRE

Fire destroyed a washhouse and dry goods store at the Hotel Chatham just after 5 a.m. this morning. However, there was no damage to the main hotel building close by, apart from some blistered paint.' The hotel’s manager, Mr J. Allinson, praised the work of the new fire brigade. The main building was enveloped in smoke when they arrived, but it was saved by their excellent work, he said.
