Engineering firm’s 25th anniversary
Formed in Christchurch hi 1946 and now with a staff of more than 60 throughout New Zealand, the firm of B. R. Homersham, Ltd, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic engineers and manufacturers’ representatives, is celebrating is twenty-fifth anniversary.
The company was founded late in 1946 when Mr Homersham returned to this country after an absence of seven years. He was trained with the Christchurch M.E.D. and then served with the New Zealand Electricity Department before going to England in 1939, working in ordnance factory engineering with the Ministry of Works there. While serving with the British Ministry of Supply Research, he was selected to go on technical missions to
I]lndia and Burma in 1944, and [later Germany. Today this business has its head office in Christchurch I land branch offices in Dun[edin, Wellington, and Auckland. It runs a small engineering works for the manufacture of high-voltage switchgear, transformers, and irrigation pumping equip[ment. ] The company achieved] :[several “firsts” in New Zea-) 'iland: in 1948 it introduced] i the first large-scale irrigation [equipment; in 1966 it intro-j iduced the first scanning electron microscope; and in] ]1970 it supplied the first i gamma camera and computer I —the latest diagnostic tool I for nuclear medicine. “We believe that refined engineering and the advancing technology can provide mankind with the tools needed for combating hunger | and disease more effectively, < and give us more leisure and ] a greater enjoyment in liv- j ing,” says Mr Homersham in ] an anniversary message.
