Race Relations Bill
Sir, —I agree in full with B. E. F. S. Collin that the Government’s proposed racial equality legislation is an insult to all New Zealanders, Maori, pakeha, and Polynesian. One might have expected that a Government with the happiness and wellbeing of all its people at heart would have recognised that good relationships are developed through mutual respect and understanding and certainly not by militant legislation. It is indeed a tragic set of circumstances when our own good race relationships built up over the years, and which are developing, are to be sacrificed to pander to political forces working through the United Nations. It is a pity the present Government has not made it plain to the United Nations that we are already one people and that their methods are not oursh*politicians notwithstanding.—Yours, etc., VULCAN. December 13,-1971.
