Whicker at Norfolk Is.
In “Whicker’s Walkabout,” a series of seven documen-
taries, Alan Whicker takes a cool and sometimes downright hard look at Australia and Norfolk Island. He has not made many friends in Australia with his programmes, but the series has been rated number one in Britain. Whicker begins with two
’ programmes on Norfolk ■ Island, where some of the i Bounty mutineers’ descendants live. In the first proi gramme Girlie Christian, 76i year-old descendant of i Fletcher Christian, tells an extraordinary story. Other programmes deal i with Australia’s Northern territories, the plight of i women in a man’s country ’ (and here we may see some analogies to the New Zealand scene) and nickel fever. “Whicker’s Walkabout” was produced for Yorkshire Television and distributed by . Fremantle. It starts screening : from CHTV3 next Wednesday. z
