New Hoon Hay church

Church attendance and giv- ! ing were among those aspects of church life which tended to improve when a new church was built, said the session clerk of the Presbyterian parish of Hoon Hay (Mr A. M. Sirnson). He was commenting on the proposed new parish chinch which is already under construction. The church, which will cost $31,000 to build and furnish will have a chaletlike peaked roof of glass, and three glazed windows which can also be used as doors. Walls will be built of concrete block and wall-to-wall carpet will be laid by voluntary labour. There will also be sealed off-road parking for 24 cars. Mr Simson said that the church was designed first of all to create an atmosphere of worship, not for use as an all-purpose building. The church furniture could be moved and the sanctuary cleared in the case of future changes in the pattern of church worship, although there would be no immediate departures from the traditional style of worship. More than $16,000 had been raised by the local parishioners through carnivals. stalls, and other fundraising activities over the last four years and a half. The church will probably ‘be completed by April. 1
