Arson by firemen Nine volunteer firemen in Houston, Texas, have admitted deliberately starting at least 35 fires in toe last three years—because they were bored, arson investigators allege. Some of them said they “did it just for kicks,” and one said “he liked to see toe red light and heat the sirens.”—Houston, Dec. 12. Nuns win case The authors of the rock opera “Jesus Christ, Superstar” and their agents have been ordered to pay toe legal costs of a group of nuns who fought them in court for the right to stage toe opera in a school concert A suit on behalf of toe authors and the agents, who attempted to get an injunction stopping the performance of the opera by children at the nuns’ convent in Sydney, was dismissed by toe Equity Court.—Sydney, Dec. 12.
£6m 8.8. C. deficit The British Broadcasting Corporation had a deficit of about £6m and would have had a larger one except for a sales breakthrough in the United States last year. The corporation also said that it might have' to ask television viewers to pay more for licences, which were increased in July.—London, Dec. 12. Fired for growth Charles Keys, a 29-year-old accountant, is suing a Chicago bank for slm damages for firing him because he refused to trim his sidebums. His suit says that he wants his job back as a cost accountant and salary since May 7, toe date that he was fired.—Chicago, Dec. 12. Suits from prison Prisoners in Britain are to be allowed to bring legal proceedings alleging medical negligence by prison authorities and staff. Previously, prisoners have been allowed to seek legal advice on claims alleging medical negligence only if a reasonable cause of action was established first.—London, Dec. 12.
