PLAYER SENT TO GAOL

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. A Samoan was convicted and sentenced to three months goal by Mr K. L. Richardson, S.M., yesterday, for asaulting a referee in a Rugby league match at Manurewa on July 17. In the Papakura court, Sonny Vitala Lailua, aged 26, a vehicle assembler, had earlier denied a charge of assaulting Robert Kenneth Mcßae. Lailua had five convictions, all for violence, and this was his fourth for assault. His counsel, Mr P. F. Devoy, said Lailua had been disqualified from playing for life.
