Road toll

Sir, —In reply to "Jim Abelson,” there can never, even unseriously, be an ideal driver distracted by a red light. Inquiring for road codes at various ports of call may be useful for enlightening New Zealand, but anyone who saw the Californian drivers typed in the film, “It’s a Mad, Mad Werld,” would doubt that the four L’s, he was just asked to remember were enough. I prefer the English motto, C.A.T., advertised some years ago: concentrate, anticipate, tolerate. If he thinks the Road Code fat, it looks as if He has not seen its set-up lately. It is far from fat and the excellent illustrations would be a greater factor in saving lives if a greater number of experienced drivers did not imagine themselves above a frequent study of how to drive in New Zealand.— Yours, etc., A. B. CEDARIAN. December 10, 1971..
