TROTTING Tartan Lad picked to win tonight
f, The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Tartan Lad looks a fine prospect for the Fairview Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. concession double on the second night of the Waikato Trotting Club’s meeting at Claudelands tonight.
At his last appearance, Tartan Lad looked unlucky not to have won at Alexandra Park on November 27.
Off 36 yards, he was a fastfinishing second to Silver Valley, which started from the limit. The pair meet on level terms tonight. Silver Valiev is a strong stayer, and she should be hard to beat again. Faye Bingen, First Batch and Mister Averil are others which will be well backed. Gentle Phil, a half-brother to Western Ridge, will have a big following in the second leg, the Claudelands Stakes.
His win on the first night of the meeting came at only his third attempt, and he looks to be improving all the time.
Scottie Direct and Day Command may provide his main opposition. The weather appears settled and all indications are for a fast track. Selections:
