More players, : good profit
Growing number* playing soo cer, an increase in spectators, and a vastly Improved financial position were reported at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Football Association last evening. The annual statement ot adcount* showed a profit on last year of *1808.71, which did notInclude the returning to club* of *B3l a* a rebate on the sales of the weekly soccer programme. The profit in 1870 was only a total of *l9l. . Gate receipts were 12397 an<L after the deductions of rental and southern league affiliation produced a total of *1821.14, compared to 8986 In 1870. The treasurer (Mr W. W. MaoKenzie) attributes the increase in gates to the Gillette Chatham Cup matches, the rivalry of New - Brighton and Technical In their two major clashes, and the influence gained from the continuing success of Christchurch United In th* national league. In hl* annual report, the president (Mr T, C. Gottermeyesi ■aid that In the last five years there had been a 70 per eent. Increase In those playing soccar —"a greater Increase by far than 1 any other mapor sporting code ■ can show."
