More Fijians for harvest
(N.Z. Press Association) ■ NELSON, Dec. 1. More than 300 Fijians will work on the Nelson tobacco harvest this year. The Nelson district officer of the Labour Department (Mr R. V. Hebbend) said that the 305 Fijians to be employed was more than double last year’s number. The Fijians would begin to arrive in small groups next week and would all be in New Zealand by January 24. The scheme was introduced last year, said Mr Hebbend. It had proved so successful that the Tobacco Growers’ Federation had sought a much larger number of workers for the harvest this year.
