ROUND OF 65 WIN
1 Marsh takes I ' ' '3 • ’ pro-am (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. The Australian professional G. V. Marsh, redeemed his two unjiappy final founds at Balmacewan by winning the “Evening Star” pro-am golf tournament at St Clair yesterday. His score of 65 was seven under the card. He, and some of the other younger professionals—W. J. Godfrey, J. M. Lister, J. Newton D. J. Ingram, and J. Sheargold, in particular gave notice that they will offer much tougher opposition in today’s Otago Charity Classic than they did in last week’s New Zealand Open. Godfrey and Lister share second place, two strokes be-, hind Marsh, while Newton and Ingram were on 68, with R. .J. Charles. P. W. Thomson, the Open champion for the ninth time, scored 69, the same total as H. Kennedy, Sheargold, Pl A Harvey and S. Sewgolum. While Thomson was the professionals’ choice for the Open, because of the need for accuracy and consistency at Balmacewan, the long hitters, such as Lister, are expected to come into their own on St Clair for the Charity Classic. ' K. D. G. Nagle won the title there last year when he shot a record-breaking 63 in the final round. Although he could do no- better than a 72 yesterday, he will again prove a strong contender. The Charity Classic is . the richest of the; New Zealand tournaments, for besides the $15,000 prize money, there is $lOOO for the course record and prizes for -holes-in-one at four holes. -
