Vette, Brydon have good wins

SUU no outstanding competltor of the season has emerged from track cycling at English Park. Last evening, L. M. Vette displayed more speed than previously this season, and P. D. Brydon, In his first ride -of the season at English Park, demonstrated he is running Into form veiy early. Vette showed the benefits of

an enforced lay-off the previous week with some very sharp finishing, winning a two kilometre scratch race by inches from M. D. Payne, but romping home, ahead of Brydon, in a handicap 800-metre race—though he did have a start on the scratch rider. But Brydon had his revenge in the big-field final race of the evening, the scratch five-mlle. R. K. Anderson—also showing signs of more strength—gave Vette a fine lead-out, but Brydon was tucked on as well and withstood some finishing straight variations of dlrecUon by Vette to win. Both, however, missed out in the two-mile, won by M. W. Lltolff, when they tried to come from well back in the field in the back straight. This meant going as many as five wide, which was too big a hurdle, but both were

still timed at about 12.7 sec for the final 200 metres. Still no novice ha* emerged from the ruck as head and shoulders above the rest. P. D. Basher and A. J. Bruce had scratch race wins, but P. Yaxley, a later starter than the others and a fast Improver, took the eye with two fine handicap wins. , Results:— AMATRUR Scratch.—A grade 2000 metres: L. M. Vette 1, M. D. Payne 2, M. W. Lltolff 3.
