HOSPITAL INQUIRY

Postponement sought (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 1. Hospital boards needed time to “digest” psychiatric hospitals before any allembracing inquiry into hospital services was held, the president of the Hospital Boards’ Association (Sir Edwin Bate) said today. Such an inquiry should be delayed by the Government until hospital boards and the psychiatric hospitals were completely integrated. Sir Edwin Bate was sneaking at the Hospital Officers’ Association’s annual conference in Auckland. The Minister of Health (Mr McKay) opened the conference this morning. Sir Edwin Bate said his executive felt the proposed inquiry into hospital services was ill timed.

"However, it has been made quite clear to us that our views on this matter are not acceptable to the Government.”
