Kiwi seeking coach job
J. K. Dixon, the former West Coast and Kiwi Rugby league forward, who has been playing professional football for the Sydney club, Cronulla-Sutherland, has returned to Christchurch and is understood to be keen to apply for a player-coaching position with a Canterbury club. Now aged 28, Dixon began his Rugby league career as a wing with the South Island schoolboys in 1958, toured Great Britain and France in 1965 and Australia in 1967 with the Kiwis, and played in a total of 10 tests, including the 1968 World Cup series. He has resumed employment with the Post
Office department in Christchurch. Dixon’s original contract with Cronulla-Sutherland was for a period of three years but he decided to return to New Zealand before the term of contract had expired. However, he has not yet obtained a clearance from the club. Another former provincial and 1968 World Cup squad member, N. P. Beri, is reported to be interested in a player-coach position. Beri a massive prop forward who played- for Wellington between 1964 and 1968, has been playing professionally for the Western Suburb* club, Newcastle.
