Contest by invitation
Eight leading artists are competing in a design contest for the cover of the hundredth issue of the New Zealand literary quarterly, “Landfall.” The issue, to be published this month, marks the twenty-fifth year of publication by the Caxton Press in Christchurch of a journal that has received world-wide recognition. The painters who accepted invitations to compete for the $lOO award are Quentin MacFarlane (Christchurch), Ralph Hotere (Dunedin), Michael Smither (New Plymoutn), Gordon Walters (formerly of Wellington) and Pat Hanly, Roy Good, Marilyn Webb arid Milan Mrkusich of Auckland. The winning design will be selected this week.
The award is sponsored by Redferns, Ltd, of Christchurch, the Barry Lett and John Leech Galleries, Auckland, and the Peter McLeavey Gallery, Wellington.
