ANNUAL PARTY

Honouring a g e Every year the Christchurch Federated Business and Professional Women’s Club holds a special party for senior citizens who live alone or in institutions but have very few visitors. Club members provide transport for their guests toi and from the party, serve' them afternoon tea, and pre-' sent them with flowers andi Christmas gifts. It i s the club’s way of “honouring age.”

On Saturday afternoon the club entertained 78 women and men this way at Lady Wigram Hall. Among their guests were two nonagerarians, Mrs A. Stone (96) and Mrs A. L. Dixon (9.5), who cut the Christmas cake. Mrs Dixon is the mother of the club president (Mrs E. M. Aitken).

“We were delighted that two of the most senior citizens of Christchurch were able to come to our party,” Mrs Aitken said.

Guests were entertained with a musical programme, which included items by Mr and Mrs W. R. Hawkey, Mrs L. Harris, and Misses Cecelia Payne and Cherie McDonald. In the photograph, Mrs Stone (left) and Mrs Dixon (right) get ready to cut the cake, with Mrs Aitken ready to help if needed.
