Not guilty of murder

(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, Nov. 28.

William Pere Kawana aged 50, a plumber’s labourer, of Foxton, has been found not guilty. of murder, but guilty of manslaughter by a jury in the Supreme Court at Palmerston North.

Kawana had been charged with the murder of Mary Jane Reihana, aged 41, his de facto wife, at Foxton, on October 4, and had pleaded not guilty.

He was remanded by Mr Justice Roper to December 3 for sentence.

Kawana gave evidence in his own defence.
