Firm trend continues

Trading on Smithfield Market proceeded quietly for most commodities last week, the Meat Board reported. Against a background of uncertainty among meat traders about future arrivals from New Zealand, prices for moderate pitchings of New Zealand lamb continued firm to marginally higher with the main grade (29 to 361bs) realising about 30.6 c. Omega’s were not quoted.

Pitchings of small quantities of New Zealand mutton sold slowly, with the main grade of hogget (49 to 561 b) fetching 18.1 c. Prime hogget (481 b and under), made 19.2 c.

New Zealand bx beef cuts were in short supply, at nominal quotations; prices ranged as follows:
