Church and education
A statement on religion and tertiary education will be drafted by the joint committee of the National Council of Churches and the Roman Catholic Church at its sixth meeting at Christchurch College next week. The committee, which has been meeting for three years, consists of 13 members representing all the negotiating churches and the Salvation Army. It will discuss the place of religious studies in the University and its relation to the Christian student, the role of Christian teachers in different university disciplines, opportunities for Christian witness in universities and technical colleges, the place of the chaplain, and the possible amorality of some disciplines. The addresses will be broken up by religious services of communion and worship. The subject of the final discussion will be the future of co-operation of the Churches in New Zealand. .
