Aotea Quay complex
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Nov. 26. The Wellington Harbour Board will complete its multimillion dollar container complex at Aotea Quay, the board’s chairman (Mr R. O’Reagan), said yesterday. Work stopped a few months ago when the British Conference Lines announced abandonment of plans for a direct container service between New Zealand and Britain.
The project is expected to be restarted at the end of December or early in January.
“Costs are rising, and the sooner it is done the better,” Mr O’Regan said. Mr O’Regan said that the British lines had not yet announced whether a new service round the world with container ships at present calling at Australian ports would come either to Wellington or Auckland, or to both ports.
