The Outward Bound Trust’s new executive director is Mr F. G. Heard, of Christchurch. He succeeds Colonel J. B. Harrison, who held the position for nine years.
Mr Heard, whose appointment was announced yesterday, is the director of Christian World Service, the overseas aid department of the National Council of Churches. Mr Heard was bom in England and served for 20 years with the West Yorkshire Regiment. He came to New Zealand in 1958, and was a teacher at Medbury Preparatory School, in Christchurch, for six years. In 1965 he was appointed the inter-church aid secretary for the National Council of

He and his family will move to Wellington when he takes up his new appointment in February. Mr Heard joins the Outward Bound Trust at a time of expansion, the trust having recently announced its intention to increase its facilities at the Cobham Outward Bound School, and it is raising funds for this. The, new executive director will direct the affairs of the trust from its Wellington headquarters.
