New shipping service

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 25. The Pacific Far East Line will begin a freight service from Auckland to the west coast of North America on December 20. Three vessels will be used on the new route—the Korea Bear, Samoa Bear, and American Bear. One will arrive in Auckland every 25 days. As well as carrying conventional cargo, the vessels will be able to load 22 refrigerated containers.

St Kilda shark scare.— Four St Kilda Surf Club members put extra zip into their efforts when returning from a training run to Moana-rua early yesterday morning when a shark “swished” around their canoe. The four men were unable to estimate the size of the shark but it was still visible from the beach when they landed.—(P.A.)
