N.Z. woman in Canada to ride in Olympics
(N Z Press Association)
GISBORNE.
A former Gisborne horsewoman, Miss Lynne Bruce, who has a position at the Calgary Equestrian Centre riding school in Canada, has been asked to train with a view to representing New Zealand as an individual at the Munich Olympic Games.
To be included in the training squad, she has had to buy her own horse, a five-year-old Lippizaner mare. Already the combination have had considerable success in some of the major events in dressage.
Her mother, Mrs A. A. Bruce, said yesterday that Miss Bruce would undertake a concentrated training programme which will take her through much of the United States and Canada.
Miss Bruce had said she was in for 10 months of hard training but thought she could be ready at the end of this period to compete against world-class riders. Her horse was a beautiful dressage animal. "We are very thrilled for her.” said Mrs Bruce. Miss Bruce is at present working for Dr Z. Sztehlo, Canada’s Olympic representative fbr grand prix dressage, riding, schooling and competing on his horses in dressage and two-day events. Earlier this year Dr Sztehlo had offered Miss Bruce'a trip to Munich for the Olympic Games as a groom, but since then, at his suggestion, she hopes to ride as an individual New Zealand representative in the dressage classes.
