Miners remain dull while industrials firm

Mining shares were mixed in dull trading on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Industrials showed firming tendencies while oils were slightly weaker.

Poseidon recovered 1150 c, New B.H. dropped a further 10c to 530 c. The directors have announced that the scheme of arrangement to merge its silver-lead-zinc with the similar interests of C.R.A. had been approved in the Supreme Court of Victoria. C.R.A. fell 5c to 435 c. Whim Creek was 28c higher at 240 c and Western Mining rose 8c at 220 c. Bougainville gained 4c at 152 c and B.H. Sth was 7c higher at 159 c. Kathleen Investments and Hamersley were weaker. In the industrial sector, Kay gained 5c at 100 c after the directors recommendation of acceptance of the first Redding offer, and Consolidated Home Industries gained 3c to 45c, the price offered for 50 per cent of its capital. Minster fell 8c to 150 c, still 5c above the Capital Carpet offer of 145 c a share.

B.H.P. traded erratically, finally gaining 2c at 932 c and Brolite jumped 25c to 160 c. Yarra Falls and National Bank gained, while Monbulk and Yellow Express were steady. N.S.W. Oil and Gas lost 2c to 16c and Woodside was 5c lower at 80c, but most other oil moves were minor.
