Rural mail delivery
After a meeting yesterday between representatives of North and Mid-Canterbury Federated Fanners and the Christchurch Press Company, to discuss the delivery of “The Press” by rural mail contractors, the presidents concerned, Mr A. F. Wright and 'Mr C. E. Totty, issued ithe following statement: I “Farmers, and in fact, all rural boxholders, are extremely concerned at the recent decision of the Press Company to change the basis of delivery in country areas as from December 1, 1971, and the meeting was requested with the management of the Press Company to discuss the matter in an endeavour to reach a temporary , solution. We can now state ; that the Press Company has agreed to continue the pre- 1 sent service to boxholders at the current rate of 1.15 c a copy a day until February 1, > 1972.
“This undertaking was given bn the understanding I that North Canterbury and Mid-Canterbury Federated Farmers had lodged an application with the Ministry of Transport to carry out a review of charges and to bring down a schedule rate for newspaper deliveries by rural mail contractors concerned.”
