French ship’s visit off

The Lyttelton visit of the French minesweeper La Bayonnaise has been cancelled, according to the Resident Naval Officer in Christchurch (Lieutenant-Commander K. I. Knight).

La Bayonnaise was due at Lyttelton tomorrow morning on a courtesy visit but has been delayed at Auckland by engine trouble. Lieutenant . Commander Knight said a message had been received saying mat the officers and crew were very sorry that they would not see Canterbury this trip but hoped this might be possible next year. They apologised fro the cancellation.
