Parliament’s diary

Five measures were read a third time and passed. They were the Marine Farming Bill, the Republic of Sierra Leone Bill, the Dental Amendment Bill, the Hospitals Amendment (No. 2) Bill, and the Apple and Pear Marketing Bill. The report of the Consumer Price Index Revision Advisory Committee was tabled, as were two petitions and a notice of motion. Ministers answered 10 questions. A private measure, the Post Office Amendment Bill, received a first reading.

The Armed Forces Discipline Bill, the Counties Amendment Bill and the Municipal Corporations Amendment Bill were reported back by the relevant committees as ready to proceed with amendments. The Education Committee had no recommendation to make on a Wellington petition seeking changes in the Education Act to permit Bible reading in schools. The committee made a favourable recommendation on the petition of M. C. F. Ruddenklau, of Oamaru, seeking a review of the decision to terminate, boarding bursaries after a change in the school bus route. The House proceeded with legislation.
