Cup on television
The New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation is to present its first live telecast of the Melbourne Cup to be run on Tuesday, November 2. The Acting Director-General of Broadcasting (Mr N. R. Palmer) said that arrangements had been completed with the Australian Broadcasting Commission for a direct telecast to be relayed by satellite to New Zealand for direct broadcast on all television channels. Mr Palmer said that the 35-minute programme would include a pre-race round-up, fashions, preliminaries, the race and the presentation of the cup. Because of the introduction of daylight saving in Australia, the race will start about one- hour earlier than usual, and it is expected that the live telecast will- begin between 3.40 and 3:50 p.m. New Zeland time. An edited version will be broadcast at 6.50 p.m.—(P;A.).
