Boats to be blessed

Two new boats belonging to Christchurch sea cadet units will be blessed on Saturday at Cass Bay in a ceremony initiated in Scotland in 1589. The boats are a 17ft sailing cutter, T.S. Steadfast, and an eight feet training dinghy, T.S. Cornwell, built by the cadets of that unit. The Steadfast was supplied to the unit by Royal New Zealand Navy trainees and built by them at Devonport, Auckland. The boats will be blessed by the honorary chaplain to the sea cadet units (the Rev. L. Allison) who will invoke the protection of the Godhead.
