Big entries in Kaiapoi Cat Club’s first show

Almost 200 cats and kittens were entered in the North Canterbury Cat Club’s domestic cat show held in the Kaiapoi Returned Services Association Hall last Saturday.

This was a considerable increase on the number entered last year and actual entries were also much higher because of the extended special award list The three previous shows were organised by the Kaiapoi North Show but this was the first undertaken by the club formed some months ago and considering the large crowds which attended throughout the afternoon, the success of future shows seems assured.

Before declaring the show open, the Mayor (Mr H. O. Hills) commended the committee’s efforts and club’s initiative in encouraging pet care.

Cats were entered from Kaiapol, Christchurch, Ohoka, Eyreton, and Pines Beach and the judges were Mesdames M. Flavell, F. Gibson, T. Sibley and O. Shepherd. The show secretary (Mrs S. Swalnson), who had given talks and demonstrations on pet care at five schools in the district, said she was very proud of the children’s response and the judges had commented they had never seen such well groomed cats.
