Woman dies in fire
tn,f. Pfftt AHOOlaUsn) WELLINGTON, gept. 23. A woman died when fire Swept through her two-storey home at Hokio Beach, pear Levin, early this morning. She wm Mrs Cynthia Mary Whltty, i aged 53, whose body was found among debris upstairs In the house in which she had been Sleeping. Mr Whltty, asleep in a downstairs room, escaped dad only in his pyjamas after a fruitless effort to reach his wife, The house, a showplace fronting Hokio Stream, was destroyed and Levin volunteer firemen fought foe blaze for nearly an hour and a half before it was brought under control at 3.13 a.m.
Mr and Mrs Whitty had recently moved from Otaki to retire.
