The Mayor of Christehureh (Mr A JL Guthrey) said that h« admired the business acumen of Gemini Investments, Ltd, in planning to build a new multistorey hotel in the heart of the city.

Mr Guthrey attended by invitation the press conference to announce the hoteL

“I also admire your courage,” said Mr Guthrey. The National Development Conference has said that three new hotels are needed to meet tourist needs in Christchurch—

two before the Commonwealth Games, and one by 1873. I am confident that a second hotel will start in a few months and a third js on the way.

“I know that you are aware of thia, and that you are prepared to stand up to competition,” he said.

The Minister of Tourism (Mr Walker), in a telegram read at the conference, said he was delighted at the announcement. The planned hotel would bo not only a great boost to Christchurch but also to tourism In the South Island.
