SKIING TITLE

Ewington first (N.Z. Press Association) TAUMARANUI. R. Ewington, of Hawera, is the 1971 New Zealand men’s ski champion. He won the title with a total of 179.716 points.

R. Palmer (Auckland) with a points tally of 184.373, was second, and third place went to T. Stewart (Christchurch), with 186.713 points.

Consistent ski-ing throughout the championships gave Ewington his win. He gained a first and two seconds in the three main events. Twice the national titleholder, C. Womersley, of Oxford, could only manage to gain fourth place over-all. It was bad luck for Womersley, for he won two of the three main events, but failed to gain a place in the slalom. Ewington underlined his forth when he won the giant slalom yesterday. Miss R. Willis, of Christchurch, was unchallenged to take the national women’s title. Her points tally was 190.211 and she won every event she entered.

Miss B. John (Stratford), 193.800, was second, and Miss A. Mason (Auckland), 196.941, third.
