Ornithological effort
The great bustard, Europe’s largest bird—it can be 40 inches' tall and weigh up to 351 b—has not bred outside ' captivity in Britain for more than 150 years, but may soon be seen again flying wild. The British' Army has given a fox-proof, four-acre pen on Porton Down, Wiltshire, as a home for five great bustards —one cock ind four females. The birds had been cared for previously at a private Buckinghamshire zoo.—London, September 17.
