Cross-country ski race
After a postponement and cancellation last season because of bad weather and a postponement this season through lack of snow, the flrst Snowline cross-country ski race will be held tomor-row-weather permitting. The race will be over a course of about three miles from the top of the Craigiebum Valley Club’s field to the North Canterbury Club’s field. This is the reverse of the direction the race was to have taken.
By starting in the upper basin of the Craigebum field, the course will be easier for competitors and also for the ski patrol which will be watching from various points. One of the organisers said that snow conditions were excellent, and the first person to finish should complete the course in under an hour.
About 50 skiers, from the age of 13 to over 40, will start, and there will be four sections, the winner of each to receive a trophy. Each competitor to finish will receive a badge, and the first team to finish will receive a trophy. The four sections are men open, women open, veterans, and junior—which includes both boys and girls. The veterans’ section is for skiers
over 40, and a minimum age of 13 has been set.
The race is not restricted to affiliated club members, and because this is the flrst race of its type in Canterbury, there is no way of predicting a result. Organisers say it will be very open.
