HOUSING OF AGED
: M.P.s see I Minister (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Sept. 17. , After strong representations made to him by the members of Parliament for Christchurch Central (Mr B. G. Barclay), St Albans (Mr R. P. B. Drayton), and Lyttelton (Mr T. M. McGuigan), 1 the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) has promised to review the recent decision, conveyed to the Christchurch City Council, that the four pensibner housing projects in Dyers Road, Ferry Road, Arran Crescent and Andrews Crescent would have to be held over for consideration until the 1972-73 subsidy programme.
The members said they were keenly disappointed that of 135 units approved for Christchurch in 1970, only 37 had been given the go-ahead. This was making no impression on a waiting list exceeding 500 and a waiting time which had grown to more than two years. It was emphasised that of $983,000 spent last year by the Government on pensioner housing, none was allocated to Christchurch. The Minister has also agreed to meet representatives of the four metropolitan local authorities later this month •to discuss the situation.
