Dance tests

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, September 9. A panel of three judges— Mrs Colleen Parker (Gisborne), Miss Muriel Waugh (Christchurch), and Mrs June Coughlan (Wellington)—will examine candidates for the highest award given by the New Zealand Academy of National Dancing, the solo seal, at the Theatre Royal, Timaru, tomorrow. There are 13 entrants, six of them from the South Island. Only one person has passed the examination in the two years in which it has been held. The entrants must be 18 years of age or over, and must have passed their advanced national dancing examination. They have to do four solo dances: the Highland fling, seann triubhais, sword dance, and Irish hornpipe.
