Burnside market
(N.Z. Pres, Association) DUNEDIN, Sept 9. Handy-weight steen of good quality remained firm on recent rates at the Burnside market this week. At 415 head, the yarding was much larger than usual. The 6001 b to 7001 b steen continued to bring about $3O per 1001 b, but plainer cattle were easier. Three hundred and fifty lambs were offered and values were on par with last week. In the yarding of 2300 sheep were a few pens of hoggets of better quality than has been the case in recent weeks. Values for good-quality hoggets remained firm, but lighter weights were slightly easier. Ewes dropped 40c a head. Values were:—
Prime lambs.—Heavy, to $9.70; medium, $8 to $8.60; light, $7.40 to $7.80. Prime sheep.—Heavy wethen, to $10.20; medium. $8 to $8.60; light, $6.50 to $7. Butchers’ ewes, to $5.30; medium, $4.70 to $4.90; light, down to $4. Prime cattle.—Top oxen, $220 to $250; heavy, $l9O to $210: medium. $l7O to $185; light, $l4B to $163; best helfen, to $157; medium, $l3O to $145; light, down to $ll2. Butchers* cows, $137 to $l4l, with odd sales to $153; medium, $ll9 to $125; light, down to $ll2. Runners.—sl2l to $127; large vealen, $llO to $118; medium, $BB to $101; small. $72 to $BO. Pigs.—Top baconers, to $33; medium. $29 to $32; top porkers, to $3O; medium, $2B to $3l; small, $l9 to $22.
Store cattle.—Two-year-old steen (Friesian cross), $132; yearling steen (Friesian cross), $65 to $79; small, down to $4B.
