Canadian appointed
A 23-year-old Canadian, Mr R. J. N. Dyer, has been appointed the new general-secretary to the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. Mr Dyer’s appointment was announced at a meeting of the association’s council in Christchurch last evening. He replaces Mr A. W. Barrett, who was last month appointed executive secretary of the Commonwealth Games organising committee. Mr Dyer came to New Zealand last December. He said yesterday he visited a cousin in Auckland while travelling round the world, intending to stay only a few days, but he found employment and remained in the country. Mr Dyer had had seven years’ experience in watersafety work in Canada, mainly as an instructor. He has not been connected with
. swimming in New. Zealand. He sees his new job as a ’ considerable challenge. When ! he came to Christchurch on » Monday, it was his first trip I to the South Island.
