No butter talks, says Fiji
t'N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SUVA, September 6. Fiji did not agree to an increase in the price for bulk butter imported from New Zealand, the Fijian Government said today.
The Minister for Commerce and Industry (Mr Vijay Singh) denied that the Government had authorised a higher price for New Zealand butter supplied to Rewa Dairy Co-operative for blending with Fijian butter. He disputed a New Zealand Dairv Board statement that the price increase went into effect after consultations with his Ministry. Mr Singh said there were no consultations. The Ministry had been advised by the Dairv Board in June of an intended price increase as a result of a rise in world i prices, the statement said. Mr Singh said no formal pact had been signed, but he had a letter of agreement from the New Zealand Ministry of External Affairs. The Dairy Board in Wel-
lington declined to make further comment today when the Fijian Government’s statement was referred to it.
