Buyers give market a firmer tone
Trading was more active on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday and although the price changes continued to show some sharp falls these were offset by a firmer tone elsewhere and the market index showed a small rise.
Buyers were more interested and most leading shares traded at steady or slightly higher prices. However, N.Z. Forest Products remained easy and the shares were 4c lower at 340 c. New Zealand Insurance was weaker also with a loss of 10c to 325 c, although South Bri-. tish continued to improve: with a rise of 8c to 548 c. Waitaki suffered a sharp loss of 15c to 122 c but the section looked a little firmer:
on the whole after a 2c rise ; by C.F.M. and a 3c rise by ■ N.Z. Refrigerating. The retailers and smaller i timber companies made up a i good part of the rises with ' gains of one or two cents ■ each. : C.P.D., Dominion Brewer-, lies, N.Z.M.C., and Winstone ( "were a cent firmer. ( Bell Radio improved 2c to; >; 162 c, and Pye gained 5c to •:58c.
