Hope for TV cheaper

(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON . The chairman of the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (Mr L. Cross) hopes that a “more realistic” fee can be negotiated for television coverage of the Munich Olympics. An Australian Broadcasting Commission spokesman in July said New Zealand and Australia were being asked to pay between SUS3OO,OOO and SUS4OO,OOO for the television rights. Mr Cross said this fee was unrealistic and out of the question for New Zealand and Australia. The fee for television rights from the 1968 Mexico Olympics had been $30,000. Mr Cross, a member Of the International' Olympic Committee, leaves on Sunday for the • International Olympic Congress in Luxemburg, and for Munich. He said he would discuss the Australasian television fee with the International Olympic Committee, and he had hopes of obtaining a more realistic figure.
