Degrees in business
Sir, —I have been encour-1 aged to read of Mr Stewart’s i strongly-worded support for < university education in busi-1 ness studies, although I do i not subscribe to his views i on B.A. degrees. The Univer- 1 sity of Canterbury has, of 1 course, offered a B.Com. degree for many years. We also offer a one-year full-time post-graduate Diploma in Business Administration, designed for graduates in other ' subjects, including arts as well as engineering, science, and forestry. It is hoped to extend this to a master’s degree in the future. We also offer a number of programmes for experienced executives and directors. For example, on October 6 we shall discuss "Technological Development” on October 19 and 20 “Industrial Relations,” and on December 1 “Government ' and Business —Some Current Issues.” Finally, Mr Stewart will be welcome to attend our meeting on “Marketing Strategy” on November 3 as my guest—Yours, A. M. BOURN, Professor of Industrial Administration, University of Canterbury. September 6, 1971. Sir, —I was surprised, that “Parent of Students” should suggest that Form Vn at high school should be only for those not going to university. Form 7 surely is the year when bursaries and scholarships are gained. What is the use of these if you are not going to university? The purpose of Form VII, then, seems to be education for the sake of education—a strange contradiction when “Parent of Students” wants only keen students to go to university. - —Yours, etc., V.S.B. September 4, 1971.
