FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A weak trough of low pressure is moving eastwards off north-eastern parts of the North Island. A west to south-west airstream prevails over the rest of New Zealand and the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Canterbury: moderate to fresh westerlies; mainly fine and cold, but scattered showers in the western high country and snow down to about 2000 ft. Marlborough and Nelson: westerly winds, mainly fresh but becoming strong about Cook Strait; mostly fine, but a few showers in the ranges west of Nelson; cool. Buller and Westland: moderate to fresh south-westerlies; cold and showery; snow likely on the ranges down to about 2000 ft Outlook: scattered showers in Buller, Westland and the western ranges, of Nelson; elsewhere fine and frosty.
