RESTRICTION EASED

Field advisory officers An increase in Department of Agriculture funds to alleviate the restrictions on car mileage for field advisory ofcers has been announced by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Carter). “The new allocation will go a long way towards restoring the type of on-farm service which the department previously supplied,” said the Minister. “As part of the economy drive, expenditure had to be held to the 1970-71 figure, and this, plus higher running costs, meant a 35 per cent cut in advisory staff car mileages.

“The new allocation is substantial, but careful planning will be needed to make the best use of the money,” said the Minister. ’"The larger measure of freedom for the advisory staff will, I am sure, restore their morale.”
